Description

This line comes from the urgent need to represent the complex systems within the manufacturing and / or service companies facing capacity and time constraints. Discrete event simulation (DES) has proved to be a powerful tool for characterising complex production processes so that substantial improvements can be made.

In an effort to solve the real problems that arise in business processes, this line of research aims to improve the production rate, reduce downtime, minimise costs or enhance plant layout.

The GII has these simulation tools: ExtendSim Suite (for discrete, continuous, mixed and agent simulation), DELMIA Quest (3D simulation), DELMIA Human (Digital Human Models) and Simio (3D Simulation).

Topics of interest include:

  • Discrete event simulation.

  • Production and service processes.

  • Supply chains.

  • Methodology and tools for modelling, analysing and designing industrial processes.

  • Industrial ergonomics.
